Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences is a premier institution in the field of medical and health education in India. Situated in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, the university was founded in 1986. The University is the brainchild of Padmashree Dr. Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, a legendary figure and Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, who had a strong vision to improve the quality of medical education and healthcare.

He realized the need for an exclusive university that would focus solely on Medicine, Dental Sciences, Nursing, and Allied Health Sciences. The first chancellor of the university was none other than Dr. N.T. Rama Rao himself. Presently, the Hon’ble Governor of Andhra Pradesh serves as the university's Chancellor. This is the first university in India dedicated solely to medical education and health services.
